Man attacked his mother after she poured vodka down sink saying there would be no drink in house

A man who struck his mother on the face after she poured vodka down the sink while saying there would be no drinking in the house has been jailed for four months.

William John Wilson (46), of Benbradagh Avenue, Limavady, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court via video link from Maghaberry Prison.

He admitted assaulting his mother and causing criminal damage to her mobile phone on June 9 this year.

The court heard Wilson struck his mum three times causing a small cut to her nose and also threw her mobile phone against a wall.

Defence barrister Dean Mooney said the defendant was so heavily intoxicated at the time he couldn’t recall what he had done.

District Judge Peter King said the defendant’s mother had intervened to “try and keep a dry house” and it was to Wilson’s “shame and embarrassment” that he assaulted her.

As well as the four months jail term, the judge ordered the defendant to pay £350 compensation to his mother.
