A MAN attempted to run off from police but after being caught cannabis in a container was discovered in a follow-up search of a lane way.
James Fenton (24), of Ballyclug Mews in Ballymena, admitted possessing cannabis in relation to the incident on April 27 this year.
A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court that around 3pm on the date in question police were in the vicinity of Larne Road in Ballymena and two people attempted to run off and were chased.
Fenton was apprehended and a short time later a search of a lane way uncovered 3.5 grammes of cannabis in a container.
The defendant admitted possessing cannabis and said that was why he ran from police.
Defence solicitor John McAtamney said the drugs were for the personal use of the defendant who had addiction issues and suffered from anxiety.
The court heard the defendant had a “relevant entry” on his record.
Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said the defendant was “building up a store of trouble for himself”.
Fenton was fined £100.
