Man caught using bank card which had been stolen from woman’s purse is jailed for four months at Ballymena Court

A 20-year-old man has been given a four months prison term for using a bank card which had been stolen from a woman’s purse.

Gerard Gillan, with an address listed as Kilgreel Road in Antrim, committed the fraud by false representation offence in January this year.

The defendant was identified through CCTV.

Meanwhile, on March 13 this year police were called to an address because of an incident involving Gillan and when he was arrested for being in breach of bail conditions relating to alcohol he struggled with officers.

The defendant appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court  via video link from prison and pleaded guilty to charges of assault on police and resisting a police officer.

Defence barrister Neil Moore said the defendant is also currently charged with an attempted armed robbery.

He said Gillan mis-used alcohol and had “acute learning difficulties”.
