Man caused damage to Ballymena hostel

A FORMER resident caused criminal damage to the Lighthouse Hostel in Ballymena in July.

Vincent Martin Irvine (35), with an address listed as Knockagh Road in Lisburn, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday.

He pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to two windows and a door at the hostel on July 23.

A fire extinguisher had to be replaced.

And the defendant also admitted possessing herbal cannabis on October 19 this year.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had a long term drug problem which he “periodically beats”.

He said Irvine, who currently lives with his mother, wished to apologise for his actions at the hostel.

The defendant was given a three months jail term, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £90 compensation for damage caused.
