Man charged after police seize cannabis worth ‘£17,500’ is released on bail at Ballymena Court

A MAN charged in connection with a police seizure of cannabis worth an estimated £17,500 has been granted bail.

Peter Young (28), of Canning Grove in Crumlin, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link from prison charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of the drug on August 29 this year.

A previous court heard an address was searched in Crumlin and 1.5kilos of suspected herbal cannabis was found along with an amount of 250 grammes of the drug in bags.

With an estimated value of £10 per gramme, a police officer said the haul was valued at £17,500.

At Thursday’s Court a prosecutor asked for a further six weeks adjournment.

A defence lawyer told Thursday’s Court there were no objections to bail.

The defendant was released on his own bail of £500 to reside in Crumlin with a 9pm-7am curfew when he will be electronically tagged.

Other conditions included signing twice a week at Antrim Police Station.

The case was adjourned to January.
