Man couldn’t remember shoplifting incident as he was under influence of ‘synthetic Diazepam’

The Poundland store at the Tower Centre

A MAN who stole goods from Poundland in Ballymena’s Tower Centre had no memory of being there as he had been under the influence of “synthetic Diazepam,” his solicitor said.

Anthony Ramsey (31), of Slemish Drive, Ballymena, committed theft on July 3.

A prosecutor said the defendant took a bottle of Vimto, a can of deodorant and a Kinder bar and after consuming some items in the shop he then went towards the exit with four cans of Cola.

The total amount of the items was £4.

Defence solicitor Ciaran Shiels said the defendant had a number of previous theft convictions.

When shown CCTV images the defendant accepted it was him.

The court heard Ramsey attends the Railway Street addiction centre in Ballymena.

He was fined £100.
