Man did not pay fixed penalty ticket on time after keeping licence so he could hire a car on holiday

Ballymena Court

A COURT heard a man had tried to pay a fixed penalty for a speeding offence but when he was told he had not sent in the correct documentation he then needed his licence to hire a car on a holiday.

When Derek McAuley (53), of Lisnafillan Road near Galgorm, failed to sort the matter out within the set time period it triggered a court summons.

Ballymena Magistrates Court heard he was detected driving at 44mph in a 30mph zone at Glenravel Road, Cargan, on February 27 this year.

He was given three penalty points and an £80 fine.
