Man gets two weeks driving ban at Ballymena Court for speeding offence

Ballymena Court

A MAN already with nine penalty points on his licence who was caught speeding has been banned from driving for two weeks and fined £300.

Stuart Douglas (32), with an address listed as Warden Street, Ballymena, was detected doing 48mph in a 30mph zone at Cullybackey Road, Cullybackey, on November 27 last year.

Defence solicitor David McIlrath said the defendant was running late and had to collect a young child from school.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday, District Judge Nigel Broderick said as the defendant had been sitting on nine penalty points “you would have thought he would have been more careful”.

The judge said he would keep the nine points in place and ban the defendant from driving for two weeks but warned him if he comes to court again for a driving offence which attracts points there could be a six months disqualification.
