Man had been ‘drinking all day’ before breaching Restraining Order by making phone calls to ex-partner

Ballymena Court

A MAN claimed he had been “out drinking all day” before he breached a Restraining Order by making several phone calls to his ex-partner.

Adrian John Dunlop (48), of Moorfields Road, Moorfields, was at Ballymena Magistrates Court on January 2 for sentencing in relation to offending in October last year.

The court was told a recording was made of a call.

A defence solicitor said the defendant had been highly intoxicated on the date in question after being out drinking all day.

The lawyer said the defendant had now deleted the phone number.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant he had placed his “liberty very much in jeopardy” by breaching a Restraining Order and also being in breach of two suspended sentences.

He told the defendant: “You have to understand any contact from you causes the complainant distress.”

The defendant was put on Probation with a condition regarding taking part in the ‘Building Better Relationships’ programme and the suspended sentences were re-suspended.
