Man is convicted for £2,000 benefit fraud

A man has been convicted at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court for claiming over £2,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Christopher Kennedy, (29) of Moycraig Road near Dunseverick, claimed Employment and Support Allowance totalling £2,129 while failing to declare employment.

He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. T

he Department was also granted a Compensation Order for £1,678.50.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
