Man made ‘foolish decision’ to buy car one month into driving ban

Ballymena Court

A MAN made, what was described by a defence lawyer as a “foolish decision” to buy a car, one month into a driving ban and was then caught behind the wheel, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told.

Ryan Stewart (32), of Arran Avenue, Ballymena, was caught on June 4 last year in a Volkswagen Jetta for which he was uninsured.

In March last year at the Tesco car park at Larne Road Link in the town, the defendant had been detected using a Volkswagen Golf without insurance and there was also a driving licence offence.

District Judge Nigel Broderick told the defendant he was putting himself at real risk of going to prison and he hoped the “penny drops”.

The defendant was banned from driving for a year and put on Probation for twenty months.
