Man ordered to do unpaid work after stolen bicycles found at his home

Ballymena Court

THREE stolen bicycles were found at a Ballymena man’s home and at the local Magistrates Court on Thursday he was ordered to do 120 hours of Community Service.

Declan McConnell (19), of Dunclug Park, had the bicycles discovered on July 18 last year.

On the same date he had attempted to enter a dwelling at Dunclug Gardens with intent to steal.

Also last July, the defendant was detected in possession of Ecstasy and cannabis.

District Judge Nigel Broderick had deferred sentencing earlier this year to see if the defendant could stay out of trouble and continue to engage with Probation.

He had warned the defendant if he failed he faced going to jail.

Back at court this week the judge noted that Probation had “very positive things to say” about the defendant.
