Man stopped at pre-Christmas police checkpoint in Ballymena was over the limit

Ballymena Court

A MAN caught drink driving when he was stopped at a police checkpoint said he had gone to bed earlier feeling unwell after consuming alcohol and had thought he was then okay to get behind the wheel, a defence barrister said.

However, Barry John Wallace (51), of Pineridge Road in Ballymena, was over the limit at Tullygarley Road in the town on December 17 last year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on January 23 he admitted a charge of driving with excess alcohol in his breath.

He had a reading of 62 – the limit is 35.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant had a relevant “vintage” record and banned the defendant for 14 months and also fined him £300.
