Man tells Ballymena Court he was insured for his own vehicle but didn’t know he had to be covered to drive friend’s car

Ballymena Court

A MAN told Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday he had insurance for his own vehicle but he didn’t know he had to be insured to be at the wheel of a friend’s car as well.

Marian Vlasceanu (26), formerly of Hill Street but now of Bridge Street in Ballymena, had the offence detected on October 27 last year at Larne Road Link in the town when police spotted him using a hand held mobile phone.

Regarding the mobile phone usage the defendant told the court he had no excuse and he was sorry.

The defendant, originally from Romania, pleaded guilty to charges of using a vehicle – a Ford – without insurance and using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving.

The defendant came to the court with six penalty points already on his licence and he was given a one month driving ban and fines totalling £400.
