Man told police officer on New Year’s Eve: ‘I’m going to bite your face off’

Ballymena Magistrates Court

A MAN assaulted police officers on New Year’s Eve and told one: “I’m going to bite your face off”.

Denver Moon (33), of Galgorm Road, Ballymena, admitted assaulting two police officers and causing criminal damage to a PSNI vehicle on December 31 last year.

A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court police were at his address and Moon bit an officer on the left hand and then headbutted an officer causing his nose to bleed.

He spat at officers and spat in a police vehicle which cost £72 to clean.

Meanwhile, the defendant admitted possessing an offensive weapon – a Stanley Knife – after he was searched by police in the Henry Street area of Ballymena on January 11 this year.

The defendant had the Stanley Knife in his coat pocket and told police it was in connection with doing a “wee job” for a mate.

Defence barrister Andrew Moriarty said there have been “ongoing concerns” about the defendant’s mental health and he had been attending a ‘Wellness Centre’

Moon was given a five months jail term, suspended for two years.
