A MAN who vomited inside a police vehicle taking him to Antrim Police Station punched a female officer and tried to escape.
Robert James Chambers (23), of Ballysillan Crescent in Belfast, was sentenced to three months in jail at Antrim Magistrates Court on Christmas Eve.
Defence barrister Thomas McKeever said the defendant had alcohol issues and the behaviour had been “completely inexcusable” and “abhorrent”.
The defendant was in the dock for sentencing on charges of assault on police and criminal damage to a police car on June 19, 2019.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said he took a dim view of anyone assaulting a police officer but “even more so” when it is a a female officer.
He said the defendant had a “poor record”.
Bail was fixed for appeal.
