A MAN was caught driving without insurance in Ballymena as a Royal visit in the town meant there was an increased police presence, a court heard.
Reid Telford (24), of Larne Road, Ballymena, was detected in a Honda Accord near his home on February 28 this year.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in the town as part of a two day trip to Northern Ireland.
Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine told Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday the defendant was driving the car from Ballymena to Cullybackey to sell and “it appeared there were more police in Ballymena due to a Royal visit”.
The car was seized by police.
The defendant pleaded guilty to using a vehicle without insurance and failing to produce a driving licence and was banned from driving for four months and fined £400.
