A man who was was verbally abusive to staff after being taken to Antrim Area Hospital due to his level of intoxication has been put on Probation for a year.

Ethan Ian McDowell (18), of Linenhall Street, Ballymena, struck a police officer on the same date – April 23 this year.

Earlier that day he stole vodka from Lidl in Ballymena.

The next day he stole a Goodman speaker worth £16 from B&M in Ballymena.

The defendant said he had been drunk and had no recollection.

In January this year the defendant stole alcohol worth £6.90 from Wineflair in Armagh.

He appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link from Hydebank prison.
Putting him on Probation, District Judge Nigel Broderick said: “You are a young man with a lot of issues and you need a lot of help”.
