Man went to Ballymena Police Station to report an incident and then was caught with drugs

A man who had gone to Ballymena Police Station to report an incident was then caught in possession of cocaine and cannabis resin.

Stephen McAleese (28), of no fixed abode but formerly with an address at The Traveller’s Rest in Ballymena, had the drugs detected in April last year.

In another incident, last October, he dishonestly received and handled candles and air fresheners stolen from Poundland in Ballymena.

In November he stole a jacket worth £20 from a shop in Larne.

Defence barrister Neil Moore said the defendant grew up in the Toomebridge area but at the time of the offending he was living a “transient lifestyle”.

The lawyer said the issue with the defendant had always been his “misuse of drugs”.
Sentencing was adjourned until July.
