Man who assaulted his parents is jailed for five months at Ballymena Court

A MAN who assaulted his parents has been jailed for five months at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Noel McLaughlin (35) of Middlepark Road in Cushendall, committed offences on October 9 last year.

The defendant appeared via video link from prison.

The full details of the case were not outlined to the court on Thursday.

Defence solicitor Ciaran Shiels said the defendant “simply can’t get to grips” with his alcohol problem.

The lawyer said when released from prison a job will be open to the defendant in Spain where he has done tarmacing in the past.

Mr Shiels said the defendant was “very ashamed” of his actions and wished to apologise.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant had a “poor record”.
