Man who claimed electronic monitoring tag came off accidentally in bath has case further adjourned

A DEFENCE solicitor for a man charged with with causing criminal damage to an electronic monitoring tag he was fitted with as part of bail conditions is to contact prosecutors about the matter.

Tony Simpson (32), of Shane Court, Broughshane, is accused of damaging the tag on November 19, 2019.

The case was mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court on January 2 and adjourned to January 16.

A previous court heard a claim that the tag was accidentally broken after catching on a tap whilst the defendant was having a bath.

The defendant is on bail in connection with an alleged petrol bomb attack on a dwelling at Lewis Park in Ballymena’s Ballykeel estate in June last year.

He is charged with possessing a petrol bomb; attempted arson endangering life; criminal damage to a house window; driving without insurance; being an unaccompanied learner driver and failing to display L plates.

His bail conditions include a night time curfew when he is subject to electronic monitoring.
