Man who failed to notify police of change of address in contravention of Sexual Offences Act was ‘sleeping rough near bus depot’

Court

A MAN who failed to notify police of a change in his address in contravention of the Sexual Offences Act claimed he had been boozing with street drinkers and was sleeping rough in the area of a bus depot.

Patrick Joseph Harkin (32), whose address was listed as Mill Place in Limavady, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court.

The notification offence related to the Derry/Londonderry area August last year.

A defence barrister said the defendant is now in supported living accommodation with his own bungalow at Gransha in the north west.

District Judge Peter King said because of the living arrangements the chances of the defendant “falling below the radar” were now greatly reduced.

He gave the defendant a one month prison term, suspended for a year.
