Man who stole £180 cash from Cancer Research is jailed for six months

A MAN with 134 previous convictions has been jailed at Ballymena Magistrates Court for six months for thefts including stealing £180 cash belonging to Cancer Research.

Garth Ronald Ferguson (34), with an address given as The Traveller’s Rest Hostel at Galgorm Road in Ballymena, also stole vodka worth £33.50 and toiletries worth £14,50 from a pharmacy.

The theft incidents happened in January, June and September this year.

The court heard of the 134 previous convictions 43 were for theft.

Defence barrister Neil Moore said Ferguson had been battling addiction issues for several years.

Jailing the defendant, who appeared via video link from prison, District Judge Nigel Broderick told Thursday’s Court, Ferguson’s record was “atrocious”.
