Member of public removes keys from car after drink driver crashes into lamp post at a Ballymena car park

Ballymena Court.

A member of the public removed keys from a car which a drink driver had crashed into a lamp post at a car park in the Granville Drive area of Ballymena, the town’s Magistrates Court heard on Thursday.

Fiona Livesey (22), of Cassino Avenue, Ballymena, appeared in the dock and admitted charges of driving with excess alcohol in her breath and absence of insurance for a Citroen C4 relating to February 3 this year.

She had an alcohol/breath reading of 87 with the legal limit being 35.

A defence solicitor said the defendant, originally from England, had lived here since the start of the year.

He said she had been out socialising on the date in question and as it was a “bad night” she made a foolish decision to “sit in the car”.

The lawyer said the defendant had then driven a few feet and was apologetic for what she had done.

Banning her for a year and fining her £250, District Judge Nigel Broderick said if the offence had happened on a road the disqualification would have been longer.
