Men charged with rape have their cases sent to Crown Court

TWO men charged with raping a female and sexually assaulting another have had their cases sent to Antrim Crown Court.
The accused are Nicusor Adascalitei (30) and Roman Dan-Alexandru (22), with addresses listed in areas of north Antrim.
They appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court to face charges related to alleged incidents in Coleraine in September last year.
During a Preliminary Hearing – the legal step to send a case to the Crown Court – a prosecutor submitted that on the basis of the papers before the court there was a case to answer.
Defence lawyers had no contrary submissions and District Judge Peter King ruled there was a prima facie case.
One of the accused was using crutches.
Both men are charged with raping a female and stealing a mobile phone worth £500 from her; sexually assaulting another female and stealing a driving licence, bank card and mobile telephone belonging to another female.
Through an interpreter both men confirmed they understood the charges and had no objections to the holding of the Preliminary Enquiry.
Both men were released on continuing bail and the case was adjourned to Antrim Crown Court at the end of November.
