Motorist ‘answered phone to football manager’ and was spotted by police

Ballymena Court

A Randalstown man caught using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving at Station Road in the town had “foolishly” answered a call from his football manager, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told.

Police spotted the motorist and then discovered that Kevin Coogan (29), of Ashdale, was uninsured and was unlicensed to drive on June 1 this year.

Regarding the other offences a defence lawyer said the defendant had moved home and had not been “keeping on top of things”.

The defendant was given six penalty points and fined £415.
