Motorist fined after stopping on M2 hard shoulder

A motorist has been fined £60 after stopping on the hard shoulder of a motorway in a non-emergency.

Mark Jamison (26), of Ashfield Gardens in Belfast, had the offence detected on February 9 this year on the M2 southbound, Antrim Magistrates Court was told.

Police saw the defendant stopped and he was using a mobile phone.

Officers said he had no valid reason to be parked at the side of the motorway.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had been to hospital that day and had received a number of calls.

When a withheld number came up he wasn’t sure who was calling him and he pulled in to take it.
