Motorist twice came to police attention

Ballymena Court

A MAN who came to police attention twice in May and June has been banned from driving for a year and fined £375.

Augustin Berchi (52), of Dunfane Avenue, Ballymena, was detected on May 3 after a police patrol saw a vehicle swerving and officers then smelt intoxicating liquour.

The defendant, originally from Romania, had an alcohol in blood reading of 115 with the legal limit being 80.

Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine told Ballymena Magistrates Court the defendant “didn’t think for one moment he was over the limit”.

On June 4 police saw the defendant driving erratically and being an unaccompanied driver without L plates displayed he was also uninsured.
