A MAN who was found to be over-the-limit whilst sleeping in a car has been given ten penalty points and a £100 fine.
Ben Signer (20), of Craigstown Road, Kells, had the case mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday.
He admitted being in charge of a vehicle with excess alcohol in his breath at Rosses Meadow in Ballymena.
Police saw the defendant in a Polo vehicle and he had an alcohol reading of 51 – the legal limit is 35.
A defence solicitor said the defendant had been drinking at a friend’s house and when the friend’s parents were getting up he decided to go to the car to sleep.
District Judge Nigel Broderick hoped the defendant had “learned a salutary lesson”.
He told Signer: “It is never a good idea to be in control of a vehicle when you have drink taken because you end up where you are now”.
