An over the limit motorist almost struck an unmarked police vehicle while driving through Coleraine in the early hours of Sunday May 19 this year following the North West 200 races.
Martin McLaughlin (26), of Shore Road, Ballyronan, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court.
He pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol in his breath.
Police on patrol at Union Street in Coleraine at 2.15am saw a vehicle being driven erratically and when they spoke to the defendant there was a smell of intoxicating liquor.
He had an alcohol in breath reading of 76 with the legal limit being 35.
A defence lawyer said the defendant had been driving friends from the NW200 and deeply regretted his actions.
The lawyer said the defendant made a “grave mistake” taking alcohol that night.
The defendant was banned from driving for a year and fined £300.
