Police catch man riding scrambler at a Ballymena housing estate and now he must do ‘Thinking Skills’ programme

Ballymena Courthouse

A MAN on a scrambler in the Ballee area of Ballymena attempted to make off from police but was stopped a short time later.

Anton Weir (27), of Drumtara, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and using a Yamaha scrambler without insurance at Drumtara on May 17 this year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court his solicitor Stewart Ballentine said using the bike had been an “impulsive action” and the defendant should have pushed it to fields.

The lawyer said: “He bought it for his own sporting amusement in fields”.

The defendant was in a sling in court and Mr Ballentine said his client had fallen down a flight of steps snapping a bone.

Weir was made the subject of an 18 months Probation Order with a condition that he does the ‘Thinking Skills’ programme and he was also banned from driving for a year.
