POLICE discovered a man slumped over onto the front passenger seat of a vehicle with vomit in the footwell and he was then found to over the drink limit.
Joshua McDonnell (23) of Garvaghy Crescent, Portglenone, was in the dock at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with excess alcohol in breath.
A prosecutor said at 6.50am on the date in question last month police received a report of a vehicle stationary at the junction of the Fenaghy and Corbally Roads at Galgorm.
The defendant admitted to police at the scene he had been driving.
He had an alcohol in breath reading of 58 with the legal limit being 35.
During an interview the defendant told police he had six tins of beer.
He said he left a house following an argument and he had stopped at the junction to turn and go back home.
Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said the defendant wished to apologise and accepts he should not have been behind the wheel but that he had been on the way to a friend’s house in the Ballymena area.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said the circumstances were “somewhat unusual”.
He banned the defendant from driving for a year and fined him £200.
