Police making enquiries about another matter then spot man ‘smoking a joint’

Ballymena Court

POLICE were making enquiries in relation to another matter when they observed a Ballymena man “smoking a joint” and they recovered a small amount of herbal cannabis.

James Thomas Ward (38), of Dunclug Park in Ballymena, admitted possessing cannabis in relation to September 4 this year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday, defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said the defendant previously had a “very serious heroin addiction”.

The defendant had a previous record and District Judge Steven Keown gave him a two months sentence, suspended for a year, and said he hoped the defendant would keep on the “straight and narrow”.
