A prosecutor said police saw headlights approaching them slowly and when officers got out and spoke to the defendant she said she was not from the area and was trying to get to Kelly’s Night Club but had taken a wrong turn. Two other people were in the vehicle.

The defendant, a student and part-time worker in a restaurant, was found to be over the limit and had an alcohol in breath reading of 52 with the legal limit being 35.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had received a phone call from friends who had travelled to the area by bus but the bus driver had been arrested and they had been unable to get home.

The defendant, from Garnet Close in Castlederg in County Tyrone had travelled to the north coast to get her friends and had taken two people with her for company.
