Police noticed vehicle driving slowly and then detected drink drive offence outside church

Police noticed a vehicle being driven slowly in the middle of a road and when they spoke to the driver outside the gates of Hazelbank Presbyterian Church in Coleraine he failed a preliminary breath test.

The detection was made at 2.30pm on July 18 this year, Coleraine Magistrates Court, on August 12, heard.

Piotr Czopek (37), of Somerset Court in Coleraine, admitted a charge of driving with excess alcohol in breath.

He had a reading of 41 with the legal limit being 35.

District Judge Peter King said it was a relatively low reading but said the statutory minimum ban was a year and he also fined the defendant £200.
