A police officer responding to a report of bicycles being stolen in Ballymena used one of the bikes to chase and catch a suspect, a court has heard.
The details emerged at Ballymena Magistrates Court where two men appeared for their roles in connection with the theft.
Adam Watt (18), with an address listed in Ballymena, had his sentence deferred in relation to attempted burglary with intent to steal at Dunclug Gardens on July 19 last year; assaulting a police officer and two assaults on a ‘designated person in the execution of his duty’.
William Fulton (18), with an address listed as Flax Street in Belfast, was sentenced for dishonestly receiving three stolen bicycles relating to July 19 last year.
Fulton told police he had been “out of it on Xanax” at the time and couldn’t remember anything that happened that day.
Fulton was ordered to do 75 hours of unpaid work.
