Police responding to unrelated case then find cannabis after searching man

Ballymena Court

POLICE were responding to an unrelated case in the Ballymena area and when they stopped and searched a man they found cannabis inside a tobacco tin in his jacket.

Scott Balmer (21), formerly of Drumtara but now of Nursery Close in Ballymena, had the offence detected on August 29 this year.

He appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday where his legal representative was defence barrister Stephen Law.

The defendant was on probation at the time of the offence.

District Judge Nigel Broderick deferred sentencing until next April and said if the defendant re-offended or did not fully engage with Probation there was a likelihood he would go to jail.
