POLICE spotted a man who has an “unhappy driving record” on the road in a car without L plates displayed.
Tony Simpson (31), of Shane Court in Broughshane, came to PSNI attention at Cullybackey Road in Ballymena on February 6.
A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court the defendant told police he had recently passed his test and no longer needed L plates.
However, he subsequently pleaded guilty to an offence of failing to display L plates.
Defence solicitor Stephen McCann said the defendant had access to another vehicle and forgot to swap the L plates over.
The lawyer said it was a “very minor offence”.
District Judge Peter King gave the defendant three penalty points and a £75 fine and said: “Given his unhappy driving history I thought he would have been extra careful”.
