An inmate caught with Class B drugs inside prison has been given a two months sentence.
Emmanuel Henry (26), with an address given as Ballynafoy Close in Belfast, was observed by prison staff dropping a small package before he quickly picked it up and put in his mouth.
Four tablets of Buphrenorphine were recovered during the incident in July last year.
The defendant, who was already serving a sentence not due to end until 2024, said he “ordered” the tablets the week before from a fellow prisoner.
Defence barrister Thomas McKeever told Coleraine Magistrates Court that since the incident Henry had passed ten drugs tests and is now an orderly in a prison health care unit.
Deputy District Judge Austin Kennedy said the abuse of drugs in jails is a “serious issue”.
