Puncture on motorway leads to insurance offence being detected

Ballymena Court

WHEN police spoke to the driver of a Ford Focus which suffered a puncture on the M2 motorway near Antrim at 12.45am on November 11 last year it was discovered he was using the vehicle without insurance.

Ryan Blair (23), whose address was given as Ashtree Enterprise Park in Newry but who has links to the Larne area, thought he was insured, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard.

However, the court was told the insurance had stopped because of a payment default.

The defendant’s lawyer claimed letters had been sent to the defendant’s mother’s address regarding the situation and he had not answered phone calls as he didn’t answer calls with withheld numbers.

District Judge Peter King said the defendant should have noticed money was not being taken out of his bank account.

The defendant was banned from driving for two months and fined £500.
