Sandwiches theft in Ballymena was ‘matter of starvation’

Ballymena Court

A WOMAN who stole sandwiches worth £2.98 from a shop in Ballymena said it was a “matter of starvation”.

Michaela O’Connor (21), had been staying in Ballymena at the time of the offence in June this year and said she was not receiving any social security benefits.

Ballymena Magistrates Court heard the defendant, who is originally from the Republic of Ireland, is now living in the Derry/Londonderry area.

Giving the defendant a one year conditional discharge, District Judge Nigel Broderick told her she could have availed of charity food banks.
