Shoplifter nabbed after leaving Ballymena store wearing ‘distinctive’ stolen jacket

Ballymena Court

A SHOPLIFTER who was nabbed by police after he left a Ballymena store wearing a stolen item described as a “quite distinctive” jacket has been jailed for eight months.

Michael Murray (32), with an address listed as University Street in Belfast, had struck at DV8 in Ballymena on April 10 last year when clothing worth £60 was taken.

Defence barrister Neil Moore told Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday: “It wasn’t, perhaps, one of the finest pieces of criminal enterprise, obviously he was wearing the item”.

The defendant had 46 previous convictions and was in breach of a suspended sentence he had received in Enniskillen.
