TWO men are accused of possessing offensive weapons and being disorderly in Ballymena town centre.

They are Nicolae Voicu (28), of Hill Street, Ballymena, and Ionut George Toader (24), of Castle Street in the town.

The charges they face relate to February 9 this year.

Both men had the assistance of a Romanian interpreter whilst in the dock at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Voicu is charged with having a hockey stick as an offensive weapon and Toader a metal bar.

Voicu is accused of being disorderly in a pub and Toader’s disorderly charge mentioned a street in the town.

Voicu faces two other charges – assault and being disorderly at the same street.

A police officer said he believed he could connect the defendants to the charges.

The cases were adjourned to March 19.

The defendants were each given £500 bail with conditions including having no contact with any witnesses and they are not to be intoxicated in public.

Voicu is also banned from entering the pub in question.
