Two men in court in connection with benefit fraud involving £19,000

TWO men were convicted at Coleraine Magistrates Court for claiming over £19,000 in benefits they were not entitled to.

Stewart McLaughlin (58) of Carrickmore Road, Ballycastle, claimed Employment and Support Allowance totalling £7,189.48 while failing to declare employment.

He was given a three month imprisonment sentence suspended for 18 months. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

William Buchanan (57) of Lodge Manor, Coleraine, claimed Income Support & Housing Benefit totalling £12,095.56 while failing to declare employment.

He was given a three month imprisonment sentence suspended for 12 months. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities

All wrongfully obtained money has been repaid to the Department for Communities.
