Uninsured Mercedes driver ‘called into work at short notice’

Ballymena Court

A MAN caught using his partner’s Mercedes car without insurance and without L plates was using the vehicle because he had been called in to work at short notice, a defence solicitor said.

Thomas O’Donnell (32), of Dunclug Park, Ballymena, was detected at Larne Road in the town on December 2 last year.

Solicitor David McIlrath said the defendant got himself insured for the vehicle later on the day he was stopped.

District Judge Nigel Broderick told Ballymena Magistrates Court the defendant had taken a “chance” and banned him from driving for a month and fined him £225.
