Woman (21) detected drink driving in Ballymena town centre

Ballymena Court

A 21-year-old driver was stopped near Ballymena PSNI Station in the early hours of May 25 this year after police received a report of a suspected unfit motorist.

Rachael Clarke, an office worker of Connaught Road, Randalstown, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday and admitted a charge of driving with excess alcohol in her breath.

On the date in question she had a reading of 67 with the alcohol in breath limit being 35.

Defence solicitor David McIlrath said the defendant had been at a friend’s house and had intended to stay all night but early in the morning a friend’s mother phoned to say the friend should go home and the defendant then got behind the wheel.

The defendant was banned from driving for a year and also fined £200.
