Woman ‘couldn’t resist’ taking new car out

Ballymena Court

A woman who bought a car on Gumtree could not resist the temptation to take it out but when police spotted her driving slowly late at night at Pennybridge Industrial estate in Ballymena it emerged she was uninsured and had no L plates displayed.

Ballymena Magistrates Court heard Mary Ellen Downes (24), of Lanntara, Ballymena, had the offences detected on April 6 this year regarding a Volvo S40 car.

Defence solicitor Archie McCormick said the defendant could not resist taking the car a short distance from her home to an area to a place she knew traffic would be light.

The defendant was given six penalty points and fined £225.
