Woman is given suspended jail sentence

Ballymena Court

A 39-year-old woman who has admitted offences connected to an incident where she was at a property in Ballymena with a knife and hammer has been given a six months jail term, suspended for 18 months.

Kerry Ward, of Dunclug Gardens in the town, committed offences on September 5 this year, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard.

A defence lawyer said the incident was “very out of character” but there was a “significant” background to the case.

The defendant was also banned from driving for a year and fined in connection with September 5.

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said it had been a “serious” incident.
