Woman told police cannabis was to help her to sleep

Ballymena Courthouse

POLICE spoke to a Ballymena woman in relation to another matter and when they found she had cannabis resin she said she was using it before bed-time to help her sleep.

Diane Agnes McCrystal (43), of Fisherwick Crescent, admitted possessing the Class B drug on April 24 this year.

She was in the dock at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Defence solicitor Andrew Kinney said the defendant had been “self-medicating” in relation to a medical issue.

Fining her £100, District Judge Nigel Broderick told the defendant: “You have to understand this is an illegal drug so you can’t be taking it”.
