District Judge Nigel Broderick said he hoped an ‘R’ driver caught doing more than twice his restricted speed realised how dangerous it was.
Brandon Leon McIlreavy (18), of Quickthorn Place in Coleraine, was detected doing 92mph in a Corsa at the Frosses Road near Cloughmills in October last year.
He was restricted to doing 45mph.
A defence lawyer said the defendant had “internalised” what he had done and was apologetic.
On the evening in question, he said, the electrical apprentice was travelling home from a course.
Imposing five penalty points and a £100 fine, Judge Broderick said he hoped the defendant had learned his lesson and said driving at that speed was dangerous for any driver let alone an ‘R’ driver.
